Gaggia Tebe - The top of the coffee machine is extremely hot.

Question
The machine still makes coffee but the top of it is extremely hot. The steam knob almost got stuck with the heat. About 9 months ago I had replaced the boiler group and serviced it. I do not usually have problems with water quality/lime scale.
What could be the problem?

First of all these machines get hot if they left on for long hours. We know this as we carry out a durability test on each of them for a few hours. In an extremely hot case the safety thermofuse would melt and cut off the main power to the unit permanently.
This means your thermostats are still functioning under 184 degrees. However your coffee thermostat should switch at about 100 degrees so you either got your coffee thermostat faulty or the machine functions well but left switched on too long, presuming the fact that the boiler is filled with water at all times.
