Question
Hi, I have a Gaggia Classic which I bought here in the US. I'll be moving back to the UK and would like to see if I can convert essential parts to run on 240V 50Hz from the 120V 60Hz. I have a voltage converter that will handle everything except the frequency. I'm assuming the 2 parts that would be required would be the Water Pump and the Solenoid Valve? Is this viable? Thanks!

In case the american model also has two 110V heating elements on the boiler, then those can be rewired to work with 240V, but the solenoid valve and the pump would need to be replaced. Cables should be able to handle the 240V, as they should be sturdier in US models because of the higher amperage running through them. I'm not sure about the switch though. The switch itself should be fine, but the glimm lights might not work for too long, so I would say the switch needs replacing as well. If the mentioned parts are replaced and the boiler can be rewired, then there would be no need for a converter. Otherwise a proper converter should be enough to use the machine without modifications.
